北京市西三旗高新建材城位于北京市海淀区，地处八达岭高速公路西三旗环岛东侧，距市中心天安门广场18公里。东西长3公里，南北1.5公里，规划建设总面积为5.26平方公里，现有人口5万。建材城属暖温带，半湿润季风气候。年平均气温12.1℃，年平均相对湿度56%，年平均降水量573.9毫米。建材城地下是深厚的第四纪洪积冲积物，地耐力16吨/平方米。地下水水量丰富，水位2－3米，水质良好。建材城交通运输便利。北侧是北京至包头的铁路线，建材城内有一条铁路专用线。从建材城至黄土店火车站只有1公里，距清河火车站3公里。八达岭高速公路位于建材城西侧2公里，安立路（立水桥/安定门）位于建材城东侧4公里，并均与建材城内公路相连。315路、355路、398路、371路、379路、719路、362路支线及小型公共汽车与市区连通。建材城距首都机场40公里，距天津港130公里。
从一九五四年起，建材城所在地区就是北京市生产建材的基地。目前，建材城的主要产品有：彩釉墙砖、卫生陶瓷、陶瓷墙地砖、高档银镜、特种陶瓷、轻钢龙骨、吊顶、金属天花板、活动隔断、装饰涂料、功能涂料、卫生洁具五金配件、保温材料、浸渍纸、贴面板等。被称为北京市跨世纪发展新星的建材城，是市政府重点扶持的“两城一街”之一。正在成为带动建材产品结构调整，实现集中连片，优化资源配置，实行集约化经营的新型建材生产基地。
