黄沙市场占地2.6万平方米，拥有270米的码头岸线和250多个经营档铺。以经营生猛海鲜、河鲜为特色，并以批发为主，主要有鱼、虾、蟹、贝类等咸淡水水产品约200多个品种，货源来自省内外乃至世界各地。市场实行严格的食品质量安全管理，每日提供约500吨的优质水产品，其中打包发运至全国各大中城市近200吨，辐射面远至省内外乃至全国和世界各地。据统计，2008年市场交易额达65亿元，为全国同类批发市场之最。
市场自开业以来，以其管理规范、文明卫生、治安良好、交易活跃而闻名国内外，特别是在港、澳及东南亚地区享有很高的知名度。近年先后多次被评为，“广东省渔业产业化龙头企业”、“消费者满意市场”、“中国水产品批发行业十强市场”及“广州市农业龙头企业”等称号。
今后，黄沙市场的建设将按照省、市政府关于高标准、高档次、上规模和建立现代化价格机制的要求，形成对国内外水产同行中具有指导性的“广州价格”的大商业、大市场、大流通的物流中心，成为管理先进、服务配套、运作规范、信息灵敏、安全卫生、文明交易的现代化市场和集交易、饮食、娱乐、旅游观光为一体的羊城新景点。 -
