上海国际汽车城位于安亭地区，占地68平方公里，包括核心区、整车制造和零部件配套制造区、国际赛车场、教育园区和安亭新镇区等主要区域，是集制造、研发、贸易、博览、运动、旅游等多功能于一体的综合性汽车产业基地及现代化新城镇。上海国际汽车城核心区规划占地7.43平方公里，由研发区、贸易区、博览公园、高尔夫球场和都市服务中心等区域构成，集中体现了汽车城的研发、贸易、博览与旅游休闲功能。
研发区内机动车检测中心一期http://www.smvic.com.cn/、舍弗勒一期已建成运营，上汽工程研究院正在建设中。贸易区内二手车市场和步行街已建成营业。博览公园、高尔夫球场正式对外开放。都市服务中心建设启动。
汽车城核心区地处长三角沪宁经济带枢纽，核心路网发达、交通便利。
航空：距上海虹桥机场20公里，浦东国际机场65公里；
港口：距吴淞张华浜集装箱码头35公里；
铁路：沪宁铁路设安亭火车站；
公路：南倚沪宁高速公路，设有汽车城匝道口；312国道、宝安公路、博园路连接市区，距人民广场45分钟车程；北临沪嘉高速公路；西靠郊 环高速A30；东有连接F1赛车场、通往青浦、松江、金山的嘉金高速；
水运：境内苏州河直通黄浦江、蕴藻浜汇入长江；
轻轨：直达浦东的轨道交通11号线设有2个站点。
